Facing Impossible Situations
There is a story in the Bible where Jesus talked about all things being possible to those who believe Him.
Mark 9:17-27 tells the story of a desperate father whose son was demon-possessed. He brought his son to Jesus’ disciples for deliverance but grew even more desperate when their attempts failed miserably.
When Jesus arrived on the scene, this dad pled his case before Him. But instead of asking Jesus for a miracle, he requested only a morsel, asking Him if there was anything He could do to help.
Jesus immediately challenged this father’s lack of faith, telling him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”
Instantly, this desperate dad acknowledged his doubt and cried out, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!
I love this father’s transparent honesty. Despite facing an impossible situation that required a miracle to fix, he did not hide his weak faith. In complete humility, he admitted he needed Jesus’ help even to trust Him for the miracle—and Jesus met both his needs by healing his son and increasing his faith through it.
When we face impossible situations in our lives and frantically pray for a miracle, we can easily become discouraged and doubtful when things do not improve. If we are not careful, our doubts can transition into questioning Jesus' ability to fix it.
Thankfully, Jesus is there to help us overcome our doubts, weaknesses, and uncertainties when we acknowledge and confess them. He increases our faith when it is lacking and encourages our hearts in the process.
